Going Down In A Plane Crash
or Plane Crash

Late last night you dreamt that everything would be okay when you woke up in the morning.
Sad to say, your day went downhill from the moment that you stepped outside.

Wait, what in the world were you thinking?
Please, wake up and stop your dreaming,
I’m, not the only one who feels this way.

Your life, is burning up all around you,
Flames, come around and they consume you,
Please, get out of bed and open up your eyes.

And this is what I had to say-

chorus:
We’re going down in a Plane Crash (Whoo)
Life vest will do you no good when you hit a mountain/
But at least we’ll have oxygen.

We’re going down under the ground (Whoo)
Where the weather is good 24-7/
It doesn’t matter if you wear a coat everything’s warm,
But we’ll have no oxygen.

It’s clear that you need to open up your eyes.
Take a look through the glass through the grass through the mud and see through the haze.
It’s clear that I’m the only one who ever felt that way.
But you needed some help/ So it might as well be me.

Wait, what in the world were you thinking?
Please, wake up and stop your dreaming.
I’m not the only one who feels this way.

Your life, is burning up all around you.
Flames, come around and they consume you.
Please, get out of bed and open up your eyes.

Written just days after Alex purchased a digital recorder, the basic outline of "Going Down In A Plane Crash" sat on the shelf for several months. The song was originally an acoustic guitar played over a simple drum machine loop. Eventually distorted guitars were dubbed over the song and Austin layed down what is known as a "PHAT" drum track during the chorus. The lyrics were inspired by a classic scene from the cult flick Tommy Boy in which Chris Farley demonstrates the proper way to inflate a life-vest while aboard a rapidly falling plane.
With Daniel on bass, "Plane Crash," as it was soon renamed, became a very funky metal number. Derek rocks with a crunchy guitar line and Austin keeps the beat flowing. The version from Start The Reactor! was the first song to receive repeated airplay on Real Rock 99.1.
